Award-winning composer, singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Derrick Jordan references Jon as "One of the most politically savvy songwriters I know." Admission is $10.

Bill Peach will be discussing and signing his new book, Politics, Preaching & Philosophy, in the Green Hills Mall on Tuesday, July 14, at 7 pm. You can also obtain his book from PublishedByWestview.com/PeachB/html, Amazon, or your local book store.
Next AU Meeting
The next meeting will be Monday August 10, 2009 at 6:30PM. For the rest of the year we plan to hold these meetings on the second Mondays of every other month at 6:30PM. The locations have not yet been confirmed.
AU is asking for help in planning the following events. For information please contact Charles Sumner (sumner7540@bellsouth.net).
In the near future we hope to have a public meeting to honor retiring Justice of the Supreme Court, David Souter, who was a defender of separation of church and state. He took his oath of office as Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court on October 9, 1990 and will be retiring at the end of the court's term in June, at the age of 69.
In celebration of the 400th anniversary of his telescope, in addition to the nomination of this year as the Year of Science and the Year of Astronomy, this fall AU plans to screen a PBS Nova DVD entitled "Galileo's Battle for the Heavens." Based on Dava Sobel's best-selling biography Galileo's Daughter and directed by Peter Jones, this two-hour film celebrates the story of the father of modern science and his struggle to get Church authorities to accept the truth of his astonishing discoveries. Galileo's trial is a perfect example of how science was suppressed by the power of the church. A second more interactive event which will include short presentations, videos, and discussion will more likely be planned.
